During the 2016 Outward Bound Croatia has achieved a successful cooperation with two Croatian Rotary Clubs, Rotary Club Zagreb and Rotary Club Zagreb Gradec. Guided by the same values, together we have carried out several important projects of greater significance to the community.
Rotary is an international association of persons from the professional and business world with the humane aim who appreciate and promote high ethical principles in the business and private life, and spread goodwill and understanding around the world. Clubs and districts from the world are associated into the Rotary International, the world’s first organization “Service club” and non-governmental organization of the international importance which is recognized by the UN. Rotary clubs take care about the needs of the local community in which they operate, in the accordance with legal regulation and the Rotary principles, such as helping and serving, friendship and fellowship and encouraging diversity and tolerance. Croatian Rotary clubs have achieved many projects and programs with the purpose to help the Croatian citizens, either from its own resources either through an international cooperation with the other Rotary clubs.
Considering that we have the same mission as the Rotary Clubs, to serve and help the community in which we operate, we have cooperated on several large projects. The first joint event at this year was The Donor dinner, April 7th at the Congress Centre Forum Zagreb, whose purpose was to raise funds to complete the renovation of the Educational Center Veliki Zitnik. The renovation and repurpose of the old building into the Educational center of Outward Bound Croatia began in 2014, mainly thanks to the generous donation of the Rotary Club Zagreb and contractor “Zagrebgradnja Ltd.”. Also, elements in the kitchen are the donation of a few Rotary Clubs from the USA and the Rotary Club Zagreb Gradec. As a result of a successful work, in the summer has followed the most significant event of our cooperation, the opening of Educational Center Veliki Zitnik July 16th, 2016. The first participants at the Center were young Rotarians within the program “Rotary Youth Exchange” which lasted from 17th to 23rd July and during which we hosted 12 young people from the 11 different countries. In September we spent a weekend together at the Educational Center with the members of Mountain Rescue Service, Station Gospić.
Cooperation between the Rotary clubs and the Outward Bound Croatia has been recognized at the international level, and the top of the cooperation is the prestigious award Paul Harris from Rotary International who has rewarded professor Vuk – Pavlović, a member of the Trusteeship Board of the Outward Bound Croatia.
Cooperation and joint projects will be continued further in the future, we hope with the same success and intensity. It is already being prepared The Second Donor dinner, December 6th 2016 in the ambiance of the Croatian School Museum with the aim to raise funds for children of the Dom za odgoj djece i mladeži Zagreb. The Rotary club Zagreb and Zagreb Gradec and their most prominent members who have invested their time, effort and resources in the work of the Croatian School Outward Bound will be awarded.
